Can anyone tell me what W/Lieutenant means ? The answer is probably quite obvious, but my brain is not working at the moment!
    Thanks

    Hi,

You often also see it written as WS/Lieutenant - it means War Substantive Lieutenant - an important matter for a regular army officer as he/she would not be demoted below that point in the post war deomobilisation.

    I've seen officers described as A(Acting)Lt. Colonel/T(Temporary) Major/WS/Lieutenant!
