i have been an unofficial list of members of 2nd Battalion Parachute Regiment for 1944 and against different names are a mixture of abbreviations, e.g. POW, which I believe to be Prisoner of War and WIA - Wounded in Action, but what does RAR mean?
    Many thanks

Not sure if 'rest and recuperation' was a contemporary term, but it may apply to those who 'returned across Rhine'? Is there any context to that group?

    Hi,

I've seen RAR abbreviation on service records in relation to soldiers posted to Class Z Royal Army Reserve post war.

As Idler says context is everything and it is always best to have sight of the original document.

The group context is those that went into Arnhem on 17.9.44. I think perhaps Returned Across Rhine is more appropriate as this person had WIA/RAR next to his name. Thanks for your help.
