Does anyone own a copy of the following regimental history for the 6th Rajputana Rifles? Abhyankar, Major M.G. The Rajputana Rifles; a History of the Regiment 1775-1947. Bombay: Orient Longmans, 1961. I am looking to see if the sections that cover the service of the the 1st and 4th Battalions in East Africa can be copied to use in my research. Periods needed 1/6th Rajputana Rifles - 4 January 1941 - 22 March 1941 4/6th Rajputana Rifles - 1 January 1941- 30 April 1941 I have a fair number of Indian Army regimental histories from which I can provide reciprocal information. Thanks in advance.
If I had it, I would be more than happy to help--but alas I don't. May I parasitically add: Periods needed: 1/6 Raj Rifs (Feb to April 1944) 4/6 Raj Rifs (Feb to April 1944)
Get back to me in a couple of months when the MoD Prince Consort’s Library is open again. They will have it. Regards Frank
Frank: Thanks. If nothing shows up before then, I will get back to you. I originally saw it at the old Ministry of Defence Library in 1979 in Whitehall.
For anyone who has access to the HathiTrust Digital Library through a University, there is a copy available. Catalog Record: The Rajputana Rifles : a history of the... | HathiTrust Digital Library Participating Universities are listed on Login | HathiTrust Digital Library Cheers Maureen
Maureen: I am not sure if the volume is downloadable or only searchable. My daughter may have access. I will have to check with her.
David, if it helps, i could send you a scanned original copy of the Official History of the Indian armed forces 39-45 East African Campaign? I bought the book a while back which was falling to bits, but i managed to make a decent copy of it bar one of the large maps. I had to stitch a few of them. You may have a copy? Regards, Stu.
Thank, Stuart. I have an original copy and it is also falling apart. I bought mine back in the early 1970's from the English Book Depot in Dehra Dun. I actually bought the entire Indian Official History at the same time. The Arakan volume never showed up, but I got it later and made copies from Cornell Library.
Frank, got me another copy from the PCL & that was also falling to bits. Got a funny feeling that these originals have been sat on the shelves of many Libraries for years & not used..Its a shame..Its not often that i fall out with a book seller, but i did with this chap that sold me this copy. He give me a huge discount on the Campaign In Italy which was in mint condition. It was either that, or i mentioned his name on this forum. The quality of his books are normally spot-on.Expensive at times. Stu.
I actual think it was a combination of the original bookbinder and the climate. Most of the volumes show damage and my set was bought "new" from the book seller. They had dust jackets and are stamped with the bookseller's name inside the front covers. They took a long time to get here back in the 70s and they were probably sent by "banana boat".
