Acronym on War Diaries

    Can anyone advise what FD means in this sentence, would I be right in thinking it means Field. SURVEY DATA RECEIVED FROM 19 FD SURVEY COMPANY ROYAL ENGINEERS FOR ABN1, 2 & 4.

    I think looking at the War Diary as a whole it may be that BYS stands for BARJASIYA and BS stands for BASRA.

    FD of Fd normally means Field and Field Survey Company was an RE unit type.

    I would concur that they're location codes - I've seen similar on signals plans but not seen anything official on their use.

    AADC - Anti-Aircraft Defence Commander. An officer charged with the protection of an area from air attack. The post has been in existence since 1916.

    Anti-Aircraft Defence Commander A Lieutenant-Colonel’s post, created in late 1916. He reported directly to the Major-General Royal Artillery and was responsible for the protection of an area from attack from the air. The post remained in existence through WW2.

    Through the war diaries for 75th H. A. A. Royal Artillery there are many reference to B.H.Q can anyone advise me what this means please. There is also a few mentions of G.L. stations, can anyone tell me what this means please.

    Likely Brigade Headquarters.

    British Headquarters is possible but less likely.

    This is part of a Gun Laying radar unit:

    The following example is from an operation order. COMMAND POST FILES, OPERATIONAL DOCUMENTS, PLOTTING MAP AND EQUIPMENT WILL BE HANDED OVER BY 429TH/59TH HEAVY ANTI-AIRCRAFT BATTERY ON SITES TO RELIEFS. 429TH/59TH B.H.Q COMMAND POST FILE WILL BE HANDED OVER TO 306TH/75TH BATTERY.

    Can anyone tell me what H. & R. F. stands for please in the following paragraph. 306TH/75TH BATTERY WILL TAKE OUT OF ACTION PREDICTOR AND TARGET INDICATOR AT N.13., THOROUGHLY OVERHAUL AND PUT IN STORE ON THE SITE IN THEIR BOXES. H. & R. F. NO.10 WILL BE COVERED UP. CARETAKERS WILL BE LEFT ON SITE TO INCLUDE PERSONNEL COMPETENT TO MAINTAIN H. & R. F. NO.10.

    Any ideas what the C of I means please in the following sentence. 1 OTHER RANK OF 306TH BATTERY SHOT BY EXPENDED BULLET THROUGH TENT. C OF I CONVENED.

    Anyone know the GCR meaning in this sentence please. Well I believe it is GCR as print is not very clear.
    306TH BATTERY DEPLOYED. KK1 AND 2 TAKEN OVER OPERATIONALLY. GCR ESTABLISHED AT KK2.

    Does anyone know what an RDF no.1 mkII completo is please in the following sentence. ADVANCE PARTIES. ADVANCE PARTY FROM B TROOP, ABN5 PLUS ONE RADIO DETECTION FINDER NO.1 MKII COMPLETO WILL PROCEED TO 102 TRANSIT CAMP ZUBAIR AT 0530 HOURS 6TH AUGUST 1943
