I will be withdrawing from WW2Talk in order for the Mods and Admin to decide whether it is worth retaining one member who has caused several other long standing members to "self isolate"
2 of those have some of the highest "Like" totals and are not so fixated on Post Counts.

It's him or us time.A compromise might be a pre approval before his posts appear.

I'm not happy about putting the Admin and Mods under pressure, the job is thankless at the best of times and purely voluntary, so it's probably easier to say "Goodbye" to forum stalwarts than to take firmer action.

So be it, their forum, their rules, their decision, but you should at least know why you won't be seeing my postings. :salut: :bye:

Really miss the two long standing members you refer to but I sympathise completely and know how they and you feel. WW2Talk is certainly not as enjoyable as it was nine months ago.

I only have a suspicion that I know who you are referring to, but, all the same, I hope you (and the other absent member of which I'm aware) find a way around this impasse to come back to posting.

I've somehow been blissfully unaware of all this, though I probably have an idea who you refer to. Anyway, just wanted to reiterate CF's sentiments, and hope a way is found for you to stay Kev.

    Cheers, Pat

In more enlightened times etiquette would have dictated that the person concerned (not yourself) would have been shown by fellow mess members to the library with a bottle of whisky and a revolver loaded with a single bullet, and be expected to do the decent thing.

Or in a digital age be bombarded by helpful messages from fellow mess members letting them know that their account seems to have been hacked by an idiot who is incapable of behaving properly in a community.

Of course I might be thinking of someone else. I don’t think it’s been me. I have found the ignore feature very helpful in similar circumstances but I do understand this will not bring people who have left back to the group.

I have enjoyed the forum for the variety of topics covered, the depth of knowledge of participants, and the willingness by the group to be helpful and very generous in assisting people looking for help on finding out about family members, it is always sad when forums suffer fall out from the behaviour of self appointed “characters” but regrettably it seems to be all too common and it’s usually not the person causing the problem who ends up leaving.

I will miss your posts and the forum will be diminished by your absence. I hope you will find some way which enables you to return at some point.

Sad news, never good to see someone leave, especially one of the 'oldies'.

Don't let fun be spoiled by a single person.

It is better to ignore the person, whoever he is (I'm at a loss). Let him feel lonely.
Hope you will return one day ... soon, after a beer or two.

BTW this also accounts for the other members in 'self-inflicted-isolation'.

Shame to see you go Kevin.

I had noticed the marked absence of a couple of the regulars. Hopefully you and the others will feel yourselves able to come back later.

I think many of us know who's causing the trouble - perhaps use of the 'Ignore' by the rest of us might give him the hint?

Sorry to hear you have come to this decision Kevin.

I’ve also expressed my concern about the same member and used the phrase “bringing the forum into disrepute” about him to the MOD’s only a few days ago.

I have used the ignore button but that merely allows the ignored member’s curt posts and lack of civility and politeness towards others to continue - despite others also challenging him.

I understand he displayed similar behaviour on another forum.

I have sympathy for the MOD’s as I don’t recall such discontent on the forum about another member in the 8 years I’ve been a member.

The current stance is one of appeasement and history shows that never ends well.

I also greatly miss the help and support of the 2 long-standing members who have stopped posting. They were always very helpful to new members posting queries - of which we have had many over the past fortnight some of whom won’t have been impressed by a lack of civility. It does not reflect well on the forum.

Hopefully this will be resolved and the former friendly spirit of the forum will be restored.

    +1

The "Ignore" option is a wondrous thing; have used on a couple of other forums, due to a couple of members picking to bits others' rather informative posts, and then becoming belligerent when politely told, "Pull yer 'eads in!!!"

Have always enjoyed your posts, KevinBattle - hope you choose to exercise your finger with the "I" button but understand if you elect to take a vacation instead. :)

Like others I was unaware of this squabble. I must have been on the other side of the playground at the time.:)
One member sprung to mind as a possible cause of this rumpus and looking at his/her profile it confirmed my suspicion. Also at least one helpful member, who I hope will return soon, has been affected. Shame.
I hope things quieten down soon.

This all sounds very sad. Clearly my set isn’t tuned to the right frequency as I too haven’t a clue what’s going on. Sudden thought - perhaps it’s me!
Hope we will see you again Kev. I’ll miss the minion.

I've been on the forum now for coming upto 4 years (I think) and in that time I have loved the humour, banter, knowledge and help given by our members. It's what makes this forum the best anywhere on the web, long may it continue.
Sad to see the dilemma we currently find ourselves.I hope theres a satisfactory conclusion for all of us.
