Hello bogman, Welcome to the forum. I have it that the 204 Squadron aircraft that crashed on 1 April 1968 was Shackleton MR3. WR956. The undercarriage collapsed on landing, Ballykelly. No injuries to the crew. The Mull of Kintyre crash occurred on 19 April 1968 involving 210 Squadron Shackleton MR2 WB833. Eleven crew lost.

It turned over the narrow coastal strip to practice an attack on the submarine and then repeated the exercise. However, on this occasion it flew further inland and collided with the ground on the Mull of Kintyre. Re : 19 April 1968 Shackleton MR2 WB833 210 Sqn Mull Of Kintyre the Captains name should read Squadron Leader Robert Charles Leonard HAGGETT he is buried to the west of the CWGC plot at Newark upon Trent cemetery in the post 1947 service personnel section.
Hello List! Just returned from Achill Island where I tried to locate place of 1950 crash of Halifax killing 8 RAF personnel. 2x Merlin rotary engines and one main landing gear still in situ on mountain. Do I understand that all eight are buried in Ballykelly? I'm trying to locate graves and have memorial erected on Achill. Best wishes, Tom
One of the RAF bases on the map earlier was RAF Cluntoe and it was open in 1957, it was used then as a training facility - an incident occurred that led to a RAF officer being awarded a Queens Commendation for Brave Conduct.
