Hello i'm new to this Forum and i would like to have everyones opinion on a question my friend asked me.

If Germany had gotten the Jet Engine in say 1942 would they have won the war? By intimidating America from joining? Could they of launched a signifigent assult on North America with the tech they had availible at the time.

I belive that America would of fought on anways and that the Jet power alone could not do anything to America's Mainland alone in 1942-150. Due to Fule and Weight Restrictions.

    Thanks for your time

it is nign on impossible to give a correct answer to the question posed here, on the grounds that it is a "What if" question.

Admittedly, Germany was well ahead in the application of jet technology Me262, Ar234 etc, however, Hitler and propensity to give off the cuff decree meant that the technological advantages was wasted on his whims.

The answer is that the Germans had a lot of trouble with their jet engines, particularly the metallurgy. This in spite of the claim that Hitler's decision to turn the Me 262 into a bomber changed the course of the war. The problem the Germans had, with the Me 262 as fighter or bomber, was that their engines could not take the stress of heavy combat use. The Me 262's jet engine had a life of 24 hours. They had a lot to overcome with their jet aircraft, in spite of their impressive appearance.

the reason that they had so much trouble with their jet Engines was that the Nickel required for the turbine blades was by a "Furher Decree" diverted to other purposes. Thus the turbines had to be made with an inferior alloy.

This brings up the question of the 'Amerika bomber' about which I'm certain someone will be able to provide further information. I know that a German long range bomber (was it the Ju 390?) was flown across the Atlantic and back to Europe, reaching to within a short distance of the eastern coast of the USA.

The Ju390 was a heavy bomber/Reccie. It was not build under the Amerika Bomber project but was rather a further version of the JU290.
