    Hello to all!

I have come upon your wonderful site due to embarking on information regarding the timeline of my father's service in WWII.

He served with the Calgary Highlanders and the Lake Superior Regiment from France through to Holland and Germany. My goal would be to track down the war diaries for these and create a timeline map of his journey from Normandy all the home to Alberta.

Like many Canucks, he brought home the ultimate in souvenirs, my mother. My family in Holland lives near Arnhem and are my support in tracing my Mom's timeline. Ultimately it would be great to visualise the interaction between these two timelines.

I live in Australia now, so do not have as ready an access to records and information beyond what is on the net. I will continue to plumb the masses of information here, but would also love to hear from anyone who's already covered this ground and can assist or advise.

    Thanks for reading, great work!

    Cheers,

    Welcome, Brian!

A couple of resources come to mind that you might already be familiar with. One is the Project44 online Canadian WW2 mapping project (Project '44). The other is that (in conjunction with this project?) Library and Archives Canada have been digitizing a lot of war diaries so it is possible though not certain that the regiments in question may have downloadable war diaries from LAC. Their website seems to be down at the moment (which is bizarre and somewhat alarming) so I can't check, though.

    Cheers,
    Chris

Hi Brian - Welcome to the forum. I have a couple of (digital) chapters from the Lake Superior's Regimental History (re period Feb 45 - Jan 46). If you are interested I can forward them.

Re the Calgary Highlanders there is a good book out there from David Bercuson, "Battalion of Heroes, the Calgary Highlanders in World War II"

During Op Vertitable the Calgary Highlanders they fought close to where I live (Arnhem), see: VERITABLE 1945: the Canadian attack on Wyler & Den Heuvel, 8 Feb 1945.

I lived near Oldenburg, hence the Regimental names are well known to me. If interested in background information regarding this area of Operations - just ask
