Whilst watching some old war newsreels, came across "Osnabrück falls" ( you'll find it on YouTube) there's no sound unfortunately but these 2 parachute regiment guys get some camera time. They are casualties of the battle for Osnabrück it seems. I'm fairly certain 5 Para Bde were leading on one route into the city, so my thinking is these are from 7, 12 or 13 Para. Any thoughts? Alex.
Hi Alex, It's unfortunate there is no sound as the pair are being interviewed. They can be found at the 9 minute mark of the following video for anyone wishing to delve further. There are newsreels by AP/Movietone and British Pathe on Osnabruck, however the ones found so far don't include the scenes at the airfield showing evacuation of the wounded. Chalk boards tell us that American cameramen from 168 Signal Photo Company shot some of the scenes in this compilation. I'm not sure that is the case with the airfield clips as it appears to involve British servicemen only? Regards ...
I'll go out on a limb and say the aircraft seen landing is a Handley Page H.P.54 Harrow. Some examples seen here at the IWM HANDLEY PAGE HP.54 HARROW (SPARROW) | Imperial War Museums It could belong to 271 Squadron RAF who were still flying these as air ambulance aircraft in the early part of 1945. No. 271 Squadron (RAF) during the Second World War If it can be found the 271 Squadron ORB may mention the German airfield, although it won't help identify your Paras. Regards ...
