Ha, I know most of the WO war diaries series, especially WO 167

I searched through the spreadsheet of WO172 but couldn't see anything for HQ GREF(General Reserve Engineer Force). Is there a diary or did I miss it?

    Hi Andy

Thank you very much for all your help and prompt delivery of the 155Bty 52LAA Regt Diaries they arrived by post Tuesday.

Once I have gone through these I might be looking for the 154Bty Diaries 1939-1941

    Thanks for all your help

    cheers
    Richard

    Double purpose:

    a) To thank Andy and endorse his work once more: photographs that look great, every last slip, receipt and signature copied at an affordable rate.

    b) To record my experience with post-Second World War diaries. I've been looking at R.A. diaries for Hong Kong and Malaya and if they're anything to go by we are looking at a very different kettle of fish to the kind of paperwork that we are all used to seeing on this forum: these are highly abbreviated summaries and lists--lots of lists--and very little narrative. That's not to say that they are without value as there's still data to be mined, but they're much less pleasurable to read and details on individual days are sadly lacking.

I've just dug the following two references from Discovery:

    Reference:
    WO 268/290
    Description:
    40 Infantry Division H.Q. R.A.
    Date: 1949 July-Dec.

    Reference:
    WO 268/291
    Description:
    40 Infantry Division H.Q. R.A.
    Date: 1950 Jan.-Mar.

Can anybody with Kew-Fu skills beyond mine tell me whether there are any more files in this series? I've tried variations, but I can't find anything--did they cashier the Intelligence Officer?

    I've also found these:

    Reference:
    WO 268/265
    Description:
    H.Q. Royal Artillery
    Date:
    1949 June - Dec.

    Reference:
    WO 268/266
    Description:
    H.Q. Royal Artillery
    Date:
    1950 Jan.-Mar.

But I can't figure out what they are. Anybody?

    Another cheers from here.

Several post-war FARELF files for me this time. Some of the 'reports' are extremely good, but it's extremely difficult to gauge what the size and content are likely to be in advance.

A great example: it also looks to me as if the intelligence reports generated by Malaya District HQ in the late 40s and early 50s have been copied to FARELF AND the Cabinet Office AND the Commonwealth Office, and then bundled in different folders with different date divisions!
