    Hi All

With a lot of help i have found out that my grandad, George Baldwin, served with the 65 (8th London) Field Regiment RA (TA) at Anzio and Monte Cassino.
I know he fired 'big guns' and lost most of his hearing.

If anyone should h ave more information on the types of guns or where he was i would be very grateful.

    Kind regards
    Sue

As it a 'field regiment' it'd have been issued with 25 Pounders.

edit: to be honest you'd have been better off asking that question on your original thread.
2 many threads on same topic tends to lead to duplication of effort by other members & confusion all around.

    Sue.

Technically, your grandfather served on the Gustav Line rather than at Cassino. 56 British Infantry Division, as part of X (BR) Corps, crossed the River Garigliano near the coast and well down stream of Monte Cassino. 5 British Infantry Division attacked across the same river on their left and on the coast.

Your grandfather's Regiment supported the 56 British Infantry Division's attack on Castelforte, Sujo and the mighty Monte Damiano on 17 Jan 44. They got across the river but had tough time in front of Castelforte and on top of Monte Damiano.

It sounds like your grandfather was on the Gun Line.
