Hi, last Sunday I met a veteran who jumped into arnhem, seemingly got as far as Den Brink, landed up in the old church as part of Logsdale force, and quoted Lonsdales words to the men as if it was yesterday, total recall. althouth injured he hung on to a boat as daylight approached and was taken across the river and on to Nijmegen He has never been back, never joined any veterans associations or even seen Thiers is the Glory. He has Loaned this picture to us which we have had restored, in the hope that we can tell him where it was taken. With his permission I will set out in more detail his battle memories and who he is in the near future on this site. It is encouraging to know there is at least one more veteran left than we thought and we will learn his story. Added restored picture by drumaneen with many thanks for his help and input
It looks I see tram lines, Is the photo taken in Arnhem/Oosterbeek. When I'm correct about the tram lines, and the photo is taken in the Arnhem/Oosterbeek erea, maybe it is taken somewhere at the Utrechtseweg.
Have send it to some people who might now the correct postion, looks indeed like utrechtseweg oosterbeek
Confermed by Geert Maassen municipal archivist of Oosterbeek, Utrechtseweg, will post when an exact location is known

I can't remember where the builing was/is. Can somebody tell me the location? Is this photo taken during the first days of the battle, because the soldier is walking on the street and I don't see any damage?? And do you know to which unit he belong? Is he from the same unit as the veteran you met? And who has made this photo. I think nobody has seen it before.
Lofty, With reference to our chat the other night I've attached a picture of the house that your wife spotted on Utrechtseweg to see if other members agree with her!! I have to say that it looks like the best bet so far!
Lofty, With reference to our chat the other night I've attached a picture of the house that your wife spotted on Utrechtseweg to see if other members agree with her!! I have to say that it looks like the best bet so far! The corner look the same but the rest is different. And on the original photo, I think there is an other builiding behind the corner because I see a window. And the position of the house is different but that's possible when everything is damaged and rebuild.
It's Utrechtseweg 106, corner Wilhelminastraat, opposite the former police station. There is now a pizzeria "Bella Roma". I still don't recognize the building on the other site of the road though. oosterbeek - Google Maps So, I think i owe Philip a beer
I found the person H.J. Klaassen in the archives as being a manufacturer living on Utrechtseweg number 104 since 1937. I then found the picture Lofty posted in the archives and it stated Utrechtseweg 106. I think the house on the opposite of the road stood on the empty lot you see on the now picture. On that spot has been a gas-station from Gerrit Driessen later and now they are going to build houses there. I assume the house has been destroyed, maybe we can find a picture of it. Ron
Thanks very much for that Ron. It would appear that the 'super sleuths' have cleared up another mystery! You don't happen to go around in a small van with some friends and a dog do you? All the best mate..........
