Asbestos in British MK2 helmets?

My teen son is very proud of his British MK2 WWII helmet. I recently learned that Brodie helmets from WWI are known to have asbestos. I can’t find anything about MK2 helmets from the second world war. They do look different on the inside (no fuzzy asbestos-wool, just a hard plastic-looking cross), but since they evolved from the Brodie and asbestos was quite common between 1940 and 1980, I’m concerned. Does anyone know if these WWII versions of Brodies (MK2) are known to have asbestos, as well?

Post 1st WW British Helmet Mk.2 should not have asbestos components as standard. There was a concern a while ago about potential asbestos in the composite material used for the liner frame however that proved unfounded. In any case so long as it isn't damaged it is fine.

The original 1st WW Mk.1 liner had felt, lint and wadding components however the actual material could be cotton, wool (for the felt) or asbestos. These should be treated with extreme caution as should privately purchased commercial versions (the one which should be called a Brodie).

If your helmet has a screw on top, and stiff composite web and blackened cloth liner, it is fine.
