They have their next open days over the weekend of 5/6 July at RAF Shawbury in Shropshire. I've been before and it is quite a good day out and you get to see a full size Horsa glider......

You can find info on their website.....

I'm very tempted to go. Unfortunately it clashes with the RAF Waddington airshow, and with Beltring coming up funds are limited.

And I'm in the wrong country :(. Would have been interesting to see it.

Thanks to AM for the Advert.

See here for location map. Gates open at 10.00 both days. Minibus 'shuttle' onto the base. All hangars open, so lots of helicopters! Of course, the most important hangar will be the AGT's! Horsa, CG-4A, Tiger Moth. Our Dak will be outside on the hardstand. I don't know much about the flying display, but I know the RN Historic Flight Swordfish will be there on the Satuday. More details as I get them.

Looking forward to seeing any Forum Members who can make it.

My October 2009 school battlefields tour is likely to be to Arnhem. I am hoping to take a group of the boys down to Shropshire beforehand to have a look. Two old boys of Bury Grammar School served as Glider Pilots at Arnhem as I have mentioned elsewhere on the Forum.

    Mark,

I hope you can make it. BTW, have you had a look at the Learning and Access page? One of our members, Denzil Cooper, is an Arnhem GP veteran. He should be there over the weekend.

Picked up a copy of this at Duxford yesterday. decent price and from 1st glances looks as good as the other publication. Of course it is now in a list of about 20 I need to read!
