Any news of the release date of the book about the GPR at Arnhem?

Was in contact with Mr Peters a couple of weeks ago latest comment was 'August'....but lol he didn't say which year...I assume 2009......

Luuk Buist one of the authors I know very well is working hardon it and the goal is August/September this year, have seen some stuff of it and it looks very good

Will definitely be out this August. Had an email from Mike Peters.

    Steve,

Do you know when the next open day at Shawbury is?

Apologies for my aerial ignorance, but were these gliders ever used for more than one flight?
I appreciate that they were usually wrecked on operations but just wondered if the facility for re-use was designed/built-in or if they were truly 'disposable', as a very quick Google hasn't provided the answer.

    Adam,

The easy answer is yes they were re-used certainly for training purposes....I'm fairly confident no gliders were reused after Sicily and Arnhem...but it is entirely possible Normandy gliders or parts of them were shipped back to the UK to be reused.....

Cheers, one of those little thoughts that crop up.

I'm always intrigued by battlefield salvage operations, wonder if there's anything on Glider recycling out there.
I'd perhaps be even more uneasy climbing into a 'secondhand' one than a new one (but as I suspect I'd only do either at gunpoint it doesn't make a great deal of difference).

    Steve,

Do you know when the next open day at Shawbury is?

    Niall,

There is only one public event now, which is the Veterans' Day on 5 July.

I appreciate that they were usually wrecked on operations

    Adam,

In fact, more survived on the battlefield than you might think.

    Tom,
On behalf of Steve it's called The Last Drop...think it is mentioned on page 1 or 2 of this thread....it's on Op Varsity and I got my copy off the internet....it's publsihed by a US company called Stackpole Books ISBN978 08117 0310 9.

    Paid about £10 for it.......

I'm particularly interested to see what use they made of the info I supplied them about Bury Grammar School old boy Des Turner. Our Arnhem tour this year will be GPR-focussed.
