Hello Experts, Can anyone tell me when a man would have been Attested if his Regimental Number was 1427449 as on FMP the transcription states he was Attested in 1923 but I believe Arthur Shackleton was born circa 1913 according to his age on CWGC database. Many thanks in advance, Kind regards, Mavis Williams
Hi, I've checked my Paybooks in that kind of number range 1,423,214 was 13/02/22 1,426,493 was 01/01/24 So they make it look like 1923 isn't unreasonable for the number, but then it jumps to 1,430,876 was 03/10/38 So there seems to be a big jump around about his number - RA numbers in general seem to follow a date order but there are some oddities and bits where it jumps back (not sure if its the different branches of the RA) Alistair
He is listed in RA Roll in Singapore as POW: 1427449 Bdr (Bombardier) A Shackleton 3HAA (3rd Heavy Anti Aircraft Regiment) RA. Unfortunately the next entry reads OVL? (Overland) and then in pencil 'Not Thailand'. So it doesn't look as if they knew where he was. I'll have a look at some other lists later as CWGC must have had some info to be able to give a date of death. A very quick look at some other RAs gives a wide range of Service Nos. 1064369 (Bdr) and 1072029 (L/Bdr) so I'm not sure the Paybook dates will answer the question. Hopefully someone on this Forum may have the attestation records for 3HAA. Tim

Thank you all for your offers of help, I am wondering if I have the right family, although I do believe I have but hisAttestation date would make him only about 10/12 years old. I think I have found his father's Attestation Papers from WW1, On them Arthur was said to have been born in 1911. Thanks for your swift reply, would it be that the transcriber put the date of the beginning of the book, rather than the actual date he Attested? Just a thought. Thanks again, Mavis
Found 2 George & Alice's. 1 x Prospect house Braithwaite, Keighly and 1 x 171 Lake view Leeds. 1939 register. If that's of any help.
You will never guess but the family that were recorded living at 171, Lake View, had exactly the same names as the ones from Salfone Aston Hall Lane , Hawarden R.D., Flintshire, Wales with 5 records, 2 redacted!! but I am assuming that the latter are the right ones as they are in our area. But many thank, there are always coincendences aren't there! Thanks again. Regards, Mavis
