My avatar is a rather blurry shot of my grandfather somewhere on the continent in 1945 - but I kind of like it. He drove armoured cars with the RAF Regiment (No. 2742 squadron) and it must have been taken by one of his crew.

Giving this thread a bounce to reiterate my thanks to Owen for producing my own unchanged avatar, whilst at the same time wondering why some folk, including Owen, are for ever changing their avatars and thereby confusing us all.

    Grateful but Puzzled, from Cockfosters

Don't know what others motives are for changing Avatar but I like to give all my relatives that I can attach to WW1/WW2 an airing if I have a photo. Variety is the spice of life! Mind you, I'm think about changing current pic of G. Uncle Bill, he looks a bit stern.

I can't take credit for that one , Ron.
I did your original but the one you have been using since shortly after that is the 'improved version' by your chum PeterG.

I like to change my avatar as I get bored easily.
The current one is a tadpole face taken with a microscope to celebrate a pond full of tadpoles in my garden.

My avatar is the flash of the 107th Ulster Brigade.

I have no connections to this however, with my keen interest in the involvement of Northern Ireland and its population in the Second World War, it had to be either a Harp and Crown or this and I thought this one the most suitable.

My avatar is the unit crest of 64th Quartermaster Battalion (Petroleum Depot), US Army. The unit was formed in 1942 and served in Europe during World War II, in Vietnam and in Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom. (We were assigned to Europe during the Korean War.)

The unit earned seven campaign streamers during World War II and a further six for service in Vietnam. It also earned the Presidential Unit Citation with Battle Honours for support of units in the 1967 Battle of Dak To, Vietnam.

I served with the unit in Vietnam as a Petroleum Lab Technician. If you served in either of the theatres, you would have seen our trucks marked with "Petro-Main" on front and rear.

My username is the tail end of my call sign when I served with the unit.

In case anyone wondered what my slightly abstract current avatar is , it's from a photo I took here back in the summer.

Perhaps I should change my avatar to the Combined Operations shoulder flash as it describes most of my areas of research but I still like my original 'Guardsman falls over' avatar and feel it is part of my experience on WW2Talk so I will leave it as it is.

My avatar shows the Dutch Order of Orange Nassau 6th Grade, you can compare it to the MBE of the British. It is my own, that I received a few years ago when I retired from politics after 12 years political service. I used to be Councillor in our community and States-Provincial member in our province.

Mine is a small picture of my father,s dog tags. He wore them in the Burmese jungles. They look too fresh to have had to put up with all the sweat and I think they might have been a spare set. Were spare sets or replacements issued?

My Dad. (Info in my sig.) http://www.members.shaw.ca/ASovereign/Art.html

This avatar is the picture of him that was used for the Wall Murals project found throughout the downtown area of the City of Vernon BC Canada.

His image is on the south side of the Staples Department store, the second from the right here:

His father, Bishop Arthur Henry Sovereign is depicted in the middle of this mural, dedicated to Sovereign Lakes Nordic Ski Hill.
    - The family resemblance is obvious...
