Paid a recent visit to the Museum of Aviation at the Warner Robins AFB in Georgia recently.

I think of it as the Aberdeen of Airplane museums. Some of the planes are being are preserved or restored and are inside climate controlled hangers but most sit where they were towed after their last flight years ago.
I know I shouldn't, but there is something I like about artifacts being left alone in a quiet field. I can't explain it.

KC-97. It surprised me how much taller it was than a B-29

Obviously not the same C-54 that MacArthur took to Japan but it has the same doors so I threw in a shot of Doug. :)

F-15 with victory marking that I saw behind a fence. And some type of twin in the boneyard.

Waco Glider nose details, 'Rommel's Asparagus' and Nose art on a Hudson.
It is pretty dim inside and cramped so it is hard to get plane pictures, at least I find it hard. The glider nose is sticking through a hedgerow with a real C-47 above it. Pretty nice.

I'll post some more in the next couple of days

Starfighter F-104. The leading edge of the wing isn't razor sharp, as some books say. It is about like the edge of a car door. A late Saber F-86D and a nice F-105.

    Happy to do it, Mike.

Almost done. Here are some more from inside. C-46, C-47, B-25, Bendix upper turret and a B-26 with odd cockpit side panels that are different on left and right. Sorry for the quality.

The placard next to this B-52 says that Capt Hockenberger rolled it inverted and then did a split S to avoid a SAM attack in Vietnam in 1972. It doesn't say if it was was damaged either by the SAM or the roll but it couldn't have been bad since it was flown back to the States.

    Dave,

I was on holiday quite a few years ago and touring from my friends in North Carolina.

Whilst in Georgia to visit Stone Mountain and a Plantation I passed a sign post stating the way to the Aircraft Museum.

I decided I had time and made a detour which I am glad that I took.

The museum was most impressive and looked pretty new at the time and I thought the shape of the Main Building was a great idea being in the shape of the American Air Force Insignia.

Certainly a great place to visit.

Just a pity that it was pre digital camera days!

Last ones of the more modern stuff.

Starlifter, B-1 and an A-10. The used to have a British Electric Lightening where the A-10 is now but I couldn't find it anywhere on this visit. I think it was former Kuwait Air Force one repainted in RAF colors.

    Dave,

I do not know where the English Electric Lightning came from, but if not from the RAF, most probably from Saudi Arabia (Over 40) or Kuwait (14) like you stated.

I remember as an apprentice looking around the production line of the Lightning and the Saudi Air Force Markings applied on the mirror polished duraluminium skins.

    A most wonderful sight.
