Award BEM Sgt. W.S. Sykes, 156th Bn Parachute Regiment

    CSM Sykes was wounded at Arnhem and taken by the Germans to St Jospeh’s hospital at Apeldoorn where he was shown in their records as being the occupant of grave 11, buried in the grounds of the hospital on the 28th September. However he survived the war as a POW and research continues to this day to try to identify the occupant of that grave who is now buried as “Unknown” in grave 24.B.11 in the Arnhem/Oosterbeek War Cemetery
