I know that this post is over a year old but thought I would just add that Benn was assisted in his tunnel scheme by S/Sgt George Bennett, RAOC, Sgt Eric Blanch, RAOC and Sgt D Nash, RB as well as 3 or 4 (as yet) unidentified ORs. The subsequent break-out through the train's ventilator was a joint enterprise with Bennett, Blanch, Sgt W R Davies, RA, Sgt A Hesketh, RASC and S/Sgt K Clarke, RAOC and three others whose identities were unknown. It seems that after jumping from the train that the escapers paired-up and went their separate ways.
    Regards,
    Col
