Award Military Cross Lt. Ivor Horatio Morgan, 1/7 Bn Royal Warwickshire Regiment (303122)

On 8th July 1944 commanded the left forward platoon of his company in this Battalion attack on ST CONTEST. Early in the advance of over 200 yards, he was wounded in the arm. The company was constantly under fire from MG42s and heavy mortar fire from front and flank; that from the left flank at GALMANCHE being particularly devastating. Before Lt. MORGAN's platoon was in position to assault the objective he was again wounded but in spite of this he continued to command and lead his men.

By the time Lt. Morgan's platoon was in a position to capture his objective 15 of his original 30 men had been wounded yet in spite of his wounds and depleted strength of his platoon, Lt. Morgan attacked his objective and consolidated his position; continuing in command of his men for 9 hours before he consented to be evacuated to the R.A.P. This high standard of leadership, coolness and courage and a complete disregard for his own safety was an example to his men whose morale remained high during a time when disorganisation might well have set in, had it not been that they were commanded by such an officer.

Welcome aboard. The CWGC database shows thirty members of the 1/7th Battalion died that day and nearly all are in one cemetery.

From Wiki, when in Normandy:

Despite being overseas for only around five weeks, the battalion had suffered losses of 38 officers and 538 other ranks.[65]

1/7th were in France in 1940. Do you know when he was commissioned? That may widen your research.
