Citation for the Military Medal (British) First Sergeant Asa Christopher Ricks, 18103154, A Company, 507th Parachute Infantry, 82nd Airborne Division, United States Army.

For gallantry in action against the enemy on 6th June 1944 near Chef-du-Pont, France. When all the company officers became casualties, First Sergeant Ricks took over the command of the company in the defense of a bridge that the company had just captured. A fierce counterattack was made by the enemy with infantry, tanks an artillery. The weight of their attack made it necessary for Sergeant Ricks to move his company to the other end of the bridge. With complete disregard for his own safety and great personal courage he remained at his fire-swept position and covered the withdrawal of his unit. When the company had accomplished its movement, he rejoined it, and successfully directed the defense of the bridge against superior enemy forces. Sergeant Ricks' complete disregard for own safety and outstanding leadership are in keeping with the highest traditions of the Armed Forces of the United States. Entered military service from Texas.

First Sergeant Asa C. Ricks, 507th Parachute Infantry, US Army, was late for the presentation; he was up in the front line when notified and was delayed on the way. He is seen receiving the MM for gallantry near Chef-du-Pont on 6 June. When all the officers in his company became casualties he took over command of the company and successfully held a bridge against heavy enemy counter attack. 1st US Army AQ.
