Hi ALL Being totally out of my depth passed 1940 in here I thought I'd ask. Does anyone know of any specific file at the National Archives that cover these two battles (see thread title)? I've searched already and drawn a blank so wondered if they'd be listed under something more specific or generic? Any pointers greatly appreciated
Very high level, so probably not what you are after, but OK for an overview, look at 37779 here: London Gazette – World War 2 despatches
.... or here The Battle of Sidi Nsir, Tunisia - The Royal Hampshire Regiment Museum Can I ask if any particular unit/regiment is of interest? Some info here, plus a map: Algiers to Tunis
Have you searched the forum ? There are some old threads about it & I know at least 1 member posted photos of a battlefield visit few years ago.
The Battle at SIDI NISR involved the 172nd Field Regiment RA and the 5th Hants their war diaries can be found in the NA. 172nd is WO 175/342 and 5th Hants is WO 175/502. A useful account is in the Army Quarterly January 1974 it is called Near to Greatness and covers the 172nd Regt in the battle it includes the Cos report. B Perrett wrote an account of Sidi Nisr in his book Last Stand. Hope this helps
