I picked up the Sword Beach volume the other day. This is new series published by Alan Sutton in the UK (£14.99 each); they are what the 'Battleground Europe' series should have been. An excellent mix of historical information and battlefield details so you can do a tour - and full of colour photos and coloured maps. Excellent - and will be ideal for any visit to the Normandy battlefields. The volumes on the Orne Bridgehead (6th Airborne) and Sword are out now, with others to follow. Highly recommended. See, eg, the page for Sword Beach: Sword Beach They are offering £1 off if you book on-line. Ryan of Salientpoints, one of our forum members, also has them on his website at: http://www.salientpoints.co.uk/
Thanks Paul, They are indeed very good - I have Orne & Sword already. Juno & Gold are out in March and Omaha & Utah in May... These are the series I shall be taking with me to Normandy in June Members may also be interested in this little last minute publication - from Crecy. D-Day: The Lost Evidence 0 859790 97 5 £14.95 I have spent 4 days last week at the London Book fair so have quite a mass of information I now need to load up onto my site for titles taking us up to Christmas 2004. im so jealous of people who are going to Normandy for the anniversary :P i cant make it, stupid exams
I have just picked up the Sword volume and it looks excellent. I like the maps in particular - colour which is a big improvement on the BE series. If you live in Surrey/Sussex you can pick this volume up at Sussex Stationers for only £9.99 This series looks like it is dominated by Sandhurst/staff college historians, with all the usual suspects such as Badsey, Clark & Pugsley. Are they planning anything after this Normandy series?
Are they planning anything after this Normandy series? Yes they are...as soon as I have some concrete news I'll pop it up! Ryan
