    Andy -

New to the site and almost immediately spotted your post ref the BEF War Diaries - good luck to you !

Ref the diaries you have gone through, have you noted any that contain details or listing of tracked vehicle serial numbers - ie so-called T-numbers ? These numbers were unique to each tank & carrier, allowing for identification by regiment if found in the War Diaries. I am particularly interested in attempting to ident the carriers that each infantry bn might have had. Alongside the inf, I would also be interested in any vehs ident by supporting arms, ie the Arty, Engrs etc etc.

I have already gone through all the Armd Regt Diaries several times and extracted everything available, but have yet to do the Ord Work Shops or Field Parks.

Any help would be greatly received and of course, donations to H4H a regular occurance...

    Many thanks in advance

    Hi Roddy,

If I find anything I'll let you know - I suspect LAD/RASC diaries will be the best bet.

    Cheers

    Hi,
The 7th Durham Light Infantry were converted to searchlights in 1936 and became 47th(DLI) AA Battalion R.E (TA) and after the outbreak of war transferred to the RA as 47th Searchlight Regiment remaining on Anti Aircraft duties in the UK until 1st Jan 1942 becoming 112th Light AA Reg RA. So this diary will detail only home service details for the 1940 period

I've added an Excel Spreadsheet of all units that served in France from 1939 to 1940 to help anyone wishing to obtain a copy of a specific war diary. If it isn't on the list I won't be copying it.

    Regards

After some excellent trips to the National Archives in recent times I've decided to collect all 1,500 files in the WO 167 series. I've done around 60 to date - complete.

If anyone wants a copy of a particular diary that starts with WO 167, let me know on this thread and I'll get if for you. It shouldn't take any longer than four weeks for me to copy a file and then send it to you on disc.

There is however a slight catch. I don't want anything for them as I'm collecting them for myself but I thought on receipt of the file you could make a donation (amount of your chossing) to one (or all 4 if your feeling flush) of the four charities listed below that I support or have supported in the past.

    1. Army Benevolent Fund

    2. The Royal British Legion

    3. Help for Heroes

    4. Sailors, Soldiers & Air Force Association

    Soldiers’ Charity :: Home

Homepage - Welcome to The Royal British Legion - Caring and campaigning for the serving and ex-Service community - The Royal British Legion

Help for Heroes - A charity for the wounded in Britain's current conflicts

    Get involved

    Cheers
    Andy

A fourth worthy charity added at the request of a member on here.

For Ref here is all the War Diaries available for France 1939-1940. Please quote the file ref number and title when asking as I have to order the file by the number not name.

    Cheers again
    Andy

I would love a copy of WO 167/763 which is not yet copied. Happy to donate to any of those above as an ex-serviceman myself, and a member of the Legion.

Hi Andy, you would make my day if you could supply me with WO 167/801 for 7RNF Apr-May 1940 as it may give me vital information about my grandfather 4272366 L/Sgt J. Lawson. You may have seen my question on 'Fighting withdrawal to St.Valery-au-Caen'. Thank you in anticipation of your help.
    Kind Regards, John Lawson

Unfortunately, Drew5233/Andy won't probably make it to Kew for 25th
    See here http://www.ww2talk.com/forum/barracks/30666-get-well-soon-drew5233.html

I am sure though that as soon as he is able, he'll be off to Kew. ;)

    Hi Andy

Sorry to hear about your accident. Get well soon.

If you’re still planning to copy war diaries when you’re fit again, I’d love to get the following:

    WO 167/238 – 4th Division Supply Column
WO 167/235 - 4th Division Commander RASC (CRASC)

My great uncle was a pre-war RASC regular, posted to 4 Div Supply Col (which some ORBATs I’ve seen say is the same thing as 44 Coy, RASC) on 1 September 1939 as an acting Sergeant, went over to France on 1st October 1939 and came back on 29th May 1940.

I’ll make a donation as you requested in your original post.

    Cheers

    Ian

    Hi All,

I'm happy to copy and continue to add more diaries to the list but unfortunately due to a broken leg and the nature of the damage I suspect I won't me properly mobile again for the best part of six months (gutted).

Slighty p***ed off but I'm open to believe there is a reasonable excuse that just hasn't got to me yet.

I always thought that offering this service for free that there was always the possiblity that some one could take advantage and bring their own integrity into question by getting a diary and not bothering to make a donation to a military charity. My mind set was and still is that they would only be doing the person or unit they were/are researching a dis-service by not making a donation rather than taking advantage of a free offer -After all it only costs me a few pounds per disc and postage so the money is no big deal to me.

Anyway after sending a diary to a member over a month ago it appears they have chosen not to reply to any messages I've sent them to confirm if they received the diary, so I can only assume they haven't made a donation.

    Quite sad really.

Nonetheless the offer still stands for any members regardless of their length of membership.

    Cheers
