Within Beirut City, and to the south-west of the Beirut Pine Forest Park, can be found 5 cemeteries: the main Beirut Muslim cemetery and 2 CWGC and 2 French (Military) cemeteries - refer to image 06 for map. The CWGC WW1 Cemetery ajoins a French military cemetery to the north of Jaloul (Hassan Khaled) Street, and directly across the street can be found the CWGC WW2 and remaining French military cemetery. Located behind a high wall and overlooked by buildings on 2 sides, this particular WW1 cemetery is the final resting place for over 360+ men who died during WW1. There are also Russian, Serbian and Red Cross members interred here. Images are now available covering all these headstones and a video can be viewed here: note: there are no stone memorials within, but a tree was planted on 4th August 2014 to commemorate the centenary of the start of WW1 on 4th August 1914 (see image 04) LEST WE FORGET Tony Buckley www.asiawargraves.com
