Thank you very much for looking that up. edit: I'm confused, one register says they married in 1942 but this one for 1939 has her as Shipley then.
Owen The original page as below - if you need others just ask UK, WWII Civilian Deaths, 1939-1945 Name: Edith Florence Shipley Estimated Birth Year: abt 1922 Death Date: 12 Feb 1945 Death Place: Walthamstow, Essex, England Age at Death: 23 Father: Thomas Joseph Hall Mother: Edith Marion Hall Spouse: Reginald Shipley England & Wales, Civil Registration Marriage Index, 1916-2005 Name: Edith F Hall Date of Registration: Oct-Nov-Dec 1942 Registration district: Essex South Western Inferred County: Essex Spouse: Reginald W Shipley Volume Number: 4a Page Number: 502 TD
Owen: the 1939 Register was updated regularly - I've seen updates as late as 1970. You have to feel sorry for Eveline Burchell (nee Hall). She lost both parents, two sisters and her first child. NAME: Eveline Doreen Burchell BIRTH: 2 May 1921 DEATH: Mar 2002 - Waltham Forest
You can see above she was initially noted as Edith Hall, but this has been modified as harkness mentions, at a later date to show her staus at that time, I would assume the 'M' in the address column means 'Married', and of course they have modified her surname to reflect the latest situation for her. You can see similiar updating was done on the rest of the sheet as this document was the basis for the NHS system in the UK TD
Correction: three sisters. Phyllis Daisy Charlotte Fowle (nee Hall), post #7, was another daughter of Thomas Joseph Hall and Edith Marion (nee Twyman).
