    Hi,
I have found details in a note book with regards to three bombs droped at Brodsworth (Map reference:99.7263) attended to on 28 Aug 1940 by RE including my uncle. I have no information on this event but the note book has a lot of the detail from the 3 bombs, including a rough map with measurements of craters etc. There is also a complicated sketch of the equipment to "Sterilize" the bomb with a soap solution under pressure.
I wondered if anyone has information about this event or would like copies of this data, it is readable but pencil feint.
(Note I tried to contact the Brodsworth web site but all the links I tried are broken 404)

    Hi,
I will post the 3 / 4 pages from the exercise book, if there is anything that you can not read and would like to I will look at the books and try to decipher.
I am interested to know what the map reference referes to on a modern map.

I would expect it to be the local 1 inch map.
The Grid ref would work the same way as now but the grid itself would be different.
Might be an idea to try the local library and check a 25 inch map from around that time.

    Hi

I think I can give you info re the bombs at Brodsworth. I volunteer at Brodsworth Hall and I have been researching use of the Hall and life in the area during WW2 for our exhibition: Duty Calls - the Brodsworth Hall in Time of War. We would love to use your info in the exhibition and we should be able to find news cuttings and oral history reflections about the bombs. We might be able to tell you a bit more about where your Grandfather was stationed. Please contact me at panktr@panktr.plus.com.

    Hi,
Trudy I hope you were able to see the images I e-mailed to you and the list of units / sections my uncle was involved with, not having a lot of luck sorting his war postings etc. out but will keep on trying.

    Hi Neil

I'm afraid I didn't get your email - could you try again. I've found some information about where the bombs dropped and I'm going to see someone today who remembers them dropping. Unfortunately, they have built the A1M close to the site, so modern maps don't show all the cottages. The bombs dropped around 'Windy Mount' Farm on 24/08/40. Perhaps it took a while for a man with the right skills to get there! Please try again with your info - panktr@panktr.plus.com.

    Hi Trudy,
I sent another e-mail to you and attached a redrawn copy of the map referenced earlier at 5 above. I am not sure that it is of use / not original but just redrew it as you mentioned it was upside down, as a conventional map would be drawn. I added some of your / Geoff Morell's comments hope it is of interest.
    Bye Neil
