It's funny, but I never batted an eyelid when the Euro Tunnel was first promoted but the thought of a bridge between France and England sends shivers down my spine.

Perhaps it's because I've just seen the "Darkest Hour" film and now have visions of the German army pouring over the bridge in their motorized columns ?

Is it just me ? ....what do you think ?

A bridge? Headline grabbing click-bait. It'll never happen in a hundred years.....two hundred years possibly :)

Be a bit awkward building a bridge across one of the busiest shipping lanes in the world.
Doubt if it would be one continuous bridge.
Part bridge, part tunnel like this?

    But alot longer.

I've been across that bridge. Very well designed and an awesome experience.

Oresund Bridge that's where the idea has come.....but is the lad claiming to be a lateral thinker?

The Copenhagen/Malmo bridge is part of a transit system rail and road for this particular Scandinavian conurbation.

The Channel Bridge has been considered before with the installation of hydro plant to take advantage of tidal flows.

However as pointed out,it would be situated in the path of a major seaway and the infastructure would have to take primary account of this....plus the fact that adverse weather will likely reduce its availability ....a look at the number of days lost to high sided vehicle crossings of notable British Bridges and other international bridges can be used to predict the availability of such a project.

Of course,if built it will turn out to be fare rip off for users and create a hole in Festung Britain's defences.

There's an proposition to connect Siberia and Alaska with a bridge too. Not sure if anyone is really considering such a endeavor, but it would be interesting to see it pulled off. The waters are deep out there, and the weather really sucks too.

Sounds like waste of money which I am sure can be spend to improve lots of things both in UK and France. AndI doubt, the French would back up such a plan. If Boris goesahead, sure he would want the Channel Islands bridged as well. The islanders would love it..

Maybe they intend to have toll booths on the bridge and charge the ships a fee - that should cover the cost of its construction. Then when we have floods we can dump all the excess water in the tunnel - now aht other good uses could we use an empty underground tunnel for ????...................................................

Just in case that reference isn't quite as well known in the UK.

think positive, the Brits could goall the way from Scotland to South Spain and if Morocco builds a bridge across to Spain,I wecould all go on Safary to South Africa with our SUV's instead of drive instead of driving around narrow roads in Europe and.
The guys from North America can already drive from Alaska to the Falkland islands.

Not quite. The last few hundred kilometers are a little soggy.
The bigger question is why would you?

Won’t happen and we should blow the Chunnel on Brexit - don’t really mean the latter but I’m supposed to be a grumpy old git who hates all foreigners and can’t be trusted to vote the right way; whatever that is.

Anyway, money would be better spent building a bridge to/from Northern Ireland, as long as the long-term future of the Scots being part of the UK is secured as ‘remain’. I think that would be good for Ireland (generally), good for Scotland and the rest of the UK.

A stereotype to be sure but it does have a nice ring to it. :)

I'd just be happy with an east-west motorway from Penzance to Folkestone; the M27 that was due to be built in the 1970s.

I see the Chinese have submitted a quote to Boris to build the bridge. 3 million dollars.

1 million for workers, 1 million for materials, and 1 million for profit.

On hearing this a british firm put in a quote for 9 million.
Boris asked why so much ?

The firm replied, 3 million for us, 3 million for you, and 3 million for the Chinese to build the bridge.:D
