You are absolutely right. The inference was made, but the resources certainly weren't there, or weren't made apparent. However, we did practice guerrilla type warfare on exercise at Thetford and at Otterburn. Chaps would buy certain pieces of military equipment as there wasn't a lot to go around. There seemed to be plenty of ammunition available for those of us in the shooting team to go off and practise!

I know that our OC, a Major was very keen on the role and arranged a lot of training weekends, including one at Otterburn involving us ambushing a large detachment of the US National Guard. I didn't get there as I had a leg injury and couldn't guaranty that I would be fit enough for the two week exercise, but he also arranged for our Company to go to Germany with our parent unit for an exercise. There was a lot of experience within the unit. Not so much on my part as I was ex TA, but there were several commandos and at least one ex Special Forces.
We did have some fun, but I'm not sure how much of a long term deterrent we would have been!
