Reunion of 5,000 at the Royal Albert Hall. General Slim: “I’ll give you a guarantee – that whether there’s a lot of beer, or there’s only a little beer, there are no soya links!” More of Slim’s speech followed by Tommy Handley and A.N. Other, and then Vera Lynn. General Slim: “With bomb and bayonet, you again taught the Jap who was the better man!” Although the first video is described on Youtube as a 14th Army reunion, it was actually a reunion of all the services, with a short clip of “Bless them All”.
Here are a few more pages from the 1947 reunion brochure. The whole brochure is here: http://media.bufvc.ac.uk/newsonscreen/programmes/Programmes-Pdfs/40567/NoS_40567_programme.pdf
Thanks again for these links. They will be useful to me when the next Chindit Society newsletter is due.
You're welcome bamboo43. I liked Frank Owen's reference to the Wasbies, Women's Auxiliary Service (Burma) or, as he called them Wosbies. The forgotten women of the forgotten army.
