https://www.cwgc.org/find-records/find-war-dead/casualty-details/2733986/joseph-edward-chamberlain/ CHAMBERLAIN, Joseph E, Able Seaman, C/J99391 [CITY OF LONDON CEMETERY AND CREMATORIUM, MANOR PARK] AB Chamberlain is listed by CWGC as HMS Escort and dying on 18th September 1942. Confusingly that destroyer had been sunk on 11th July 1940, so did he die from wounds sustained during the sinking or is the reference to HMS Escort in error? His death isn't listed in the ADM104 casualty lists. Any ideas? Regards, Steve
Hello Steve Perhaps death cert would help. As you say poss he died of wounds. Headstone states He gave his life in the cause of freedom Able Seaman Joseph Edward Chamberlain...
Hi Steve, he has a RN service record in ADM 188/845/J99391 which is continuous into ADM-363-333/94 which states he was invalided out in 1940. Permanently Unfit for Naval Service (P.U.N.S.) View attachment 345205 Regards Hugh
Hi Hugh, Thanks for that. I guess that explains his lack of entry in ADM104, as he was no longer a serving member of the RN when he died in 1942. Regards, Steve
