Thankyou so much, just reading those few comments brought a tear to my eye knowing that there is some people out there that can help and point me in the right direction. after what 51highland has said im guessing he was in the 4th now. His name is William Ritchie, and in the nicest possible way he had big ears so he does tend to be a tad easier to spot, unfortunatly its now a family trait. Thankyou all again for your comments. Drew5233 how do i go about applying for his service records? thanks

    Ritchies,

Be aware that it can take a long time (9 months +)to get Army Records. You'll have to be patient!

This photograph may be of interest to anybody researching the Queen’s Own Cameron Highlanders in WW2. Although the photo was taken in February 1935 most, if not all, went on to serve in WW2. They all embarked for Palestine in November 1935 where they served until December 1936.
Below the group photograph are two lists one identifying the group my name and the second identifying those who died in WW2

    Hello.

I am doing some more work on the War Diaries of 2 CAMERONS and have come across a reference to 'TMC' on several occasions. I assume it is some kind of weapon system but cannot find a definition on the usual websites. Below is an extract from the diaries with a reference to it.

    Can anyone enlighten me please?

    Regards

    23rd. July, 1944.
At 0230 hrs. the "C" Coy. fighting patrol (ambush) which had gone out with an 18 set to area 276397 to remain there until last light today, unless its object of killing or capturing some GERMANS had been achieved earlier, reported back. While they were out the Coy. had been keeping a listening watch and one platoon had been standing by in case assistance was needed. The patrol reported that they had heard a veh. approaching them at 2345 hrs. 22 JUL. and had engaged it with TMC., upon which it drove rapidly away! At 0010 hrs. another veh. was heard, they fired upon it also with the same result. The patrol then returned picking up a partisan en route.

Very welcome. Your 2 CAMERONS mention caught my eye as my father served with the battalion prior to and during WW2.

    25th.

That would place him at Cassino for the Second and Third Battles. 2 CAMERONS had a really grim time up on Snakeshead Ridge in Mar 44. They were also the first Allied unit into San Marino in Sep 44.

Thank you. He was a Bandsman prior to WW2 and record shows that he (2927038 Bdsm H Clark) qualifying for Palestine clasp to GSM . Possible typo somewhere as separate record shows 22927039 Pte Clark qualifying for standard WW2 medals but no mention of Italy Star. The Regimental Band would have served in Eritrea as stretcher bearers and medics and he may have been wounded as he was not at Tobruk with 2 CAMERONS and had returned to the UK in 1942. No trace thereafter.

    John.

If he does not have the Italy Star then he may well have missed 2 CAMERONS's time in Italy.

    Frank,
Exactly so. Sadly all WW2 service records are fragmented in this context and there was no guarantee that an individual would remain with the same regiment or battalion.
    Best,

    John
