I have always thought my grandfather was a Queens Own Cameron Highlander 2nd bat, until recently when one photo of a cemetery (also attached) which was in his belongings led me to believe it was took in Kiel Germany in or around march 1945. I have been told 2nd bat QOCH's never went to germany from Italy but the cameronians 2nd did.

I know the picture is very soft but im hoping the experts amongst will be able to tell the difference between the two.

Pictured is John Alston Sewell around 1942

Impossible to tell from that photo. Do you have any more info on him? army paybook? army number? I assume he survived the war.

Yes he survived the war but didnt tell us much, I had his service record which i must find as iv misplaced it in which it said said he was 2nd Queens Own Cameron Highlander in Italy, but its this germany photo that has put everything into doubt.

Even thought that from this angle is hard to tell is that badge of Camerons or Cameroninas I'll say Camerons simple because of kilt. Only Cameronians' pipers wore kilts, Officers and OR wore trousers instead. But this is just a guess.

Judging by the kilt, that's Cameron tartan, not the Douglas tartan used by the Cameronians (this contained white, which I would assume would have shown up in the photo).

Thank you very much for your replies, Im very relieved that everything is "swaying" towards the camerons as first thought, im now disregarding the cemetery photo as something I just cant answer for.

Although I was told last night that my great uncle was in the Navy in WW2 and Kiel would be a much better answer surely, well thats what im sticking with.
