Hello all. a photo of some ancestors. Chap in the middle is my grandfather - ww1 veteran, chap to the right is his brother - I believe Thomas is his name, also ww1 veteran (you can see his medal ribbons). Chap to the left, a son. I have service records for ww1 but not ww2 so have no idea of the units. If it helps they were around dartford in Kent. looks like ARP/Home guard to me but can anyone share any more info on the cap badges or uniforms etc? This second photo is a bunch of family crowded round an ambulance, presumably at the same time as above, features the same gents from above but I wonder does anyone recognise any of the other uniforms? Looks like a couple of navy, maybe some St John Ambulance or similar. Anyone any ideas? What’s the black and white hat one of them is wearing? And a final photo of them all again, reveals some additional info (corporal rank on an arm etc) I wish the photo was larger sorry Any help or pointers welcome!! thanks Ed
They are all reversed as medals on wrong side, cap badges wrong side etc . Flip them around with some editing software. Chap with RP. Regimental Police. Black beret & cap badge is Royal Tank Regiment. Photos edited.
Thanks Owen, I did spit they were reversed when I was scanning them - not sure how to flip them so thanks for doing that. Tank regiment - that’s a new avenue to go down, thank you!
I have discovered (from a relative) what the uniform is that’s a jacket with white edging - it’s the uniform of a hospital Porter/gate keeper at bexleyheath hospital kent. My grandfather started working there in the 30’s. Presumably this is at the hospital with the ambulance, and the other chap in the dark jacket may be an ambulance driver
The Army Corporal with the side cap: the indistinct capbadge has the look and size of that of the Essex Regiment. Any possible corroborative info? He is also wearing an arm band below his chevrons, but wouldn't like to guess the function it is indicative of. RP in some regiments can also mean Regimental Provost, but effectively the same function.
Family history in ww2 is home guard, RAF and 2nd buffs - no Essex connection that I know of or have found the army Corporal is I *think* ‘uncle Stan’ who was a my grandfathers army pal from ww1 - but I am not sure that fits uniform and age wise my grandfather was 20 in 1917 so this photo would have him a n his early 50’s - Stan was similar age to him so I am not sure
