Martin Middlebrook, in his book, The Nuremberg Raid refers to Canadian squadrons using MkII Lancasters with US made turrets on them. Anyone able to shed any light on this?

I recall reading somewhere that the Canadian built Mk III Lancaster did away with the mid upper turret and installed a dorsal gun position as it was felt this offered more protection against German night fighters.

Regarding US turrets, of the two flying Lancasters left today, the one stationed in Hamilton, Ontario has the mid upper turret of a B-26 installed (clear plexi-glass with almost no framing and 2X 50 cal) I believe. I asked about this when I was at the museum many years ago and was told that they couldn't get the parts for the original Fraser-Nash turret. BTW, four buddies with a grand each can book a flight on the Hamilton Lancaster, I think the flight takes you over Niagara falls.
