Came across this death notice in The Times, 04 Jul 1946. Doesn't seem to be a matching CWGC entry. I mistakenly posted it to GWF so someone may pick it up from there.

A report of his death from the Irish Independent (6 July 1946):

Does the DC say "Ex British Army Officer"? A suicide or accidental death would rule him out if he had relinquished his commission.

That handwriting is still defeating me Paul.

    "Gre Britisher Army Officer"?

Even taking "Gre" for abbreviation of "Great" the "Britisher" part as I'm seeing it can't be right.

One thing's for certain, he held the men he served with in some regard.

    Always remember, never forget,

    Jim.

Just found his death is not recorded in the Middlesex Regiment Journal, for Sept-December 1946. See: Middlesex Regiment Journals

The Queens Regiment is the successor of the Middx Regt., their own museum was absorbed into the National Army Museum many years ago. There is a Middx. Regt. Association in London, so I will send a link to them.

Sadly he took his own life, and his bequest to his comrades a significant mark of comradeship and esteem.
