    Good day Ravrick,

If you have not already done so, it may be worthwhile contacting the National Army Museum to see what information they have regarding Captain Arrowsmith.

Contact details from their website available on the following link:
Contact Us | National Army Museum, London

I noticed from their online index of what they hold are some photographs donated by Captain Arrowsmith immediately following the liberation of Belsen. According to the brief reference given by the NAM Captain Arrowsmith was one of the first to enter the camp. Possibly you have already seen this and that is the reason for your enquiry on this forum?

All the best with your search.

Searching on Google for the terms Arrowsmith & "RAMC" provides a few hits for:

    SJT F.H.Arrowsmith R.A.M.C 7249664

which might explain why he can't be found in the LG

(presuming SJT still stands for Sergeant or Serjeant)

Hi, thanks for all the imput, I finally tracked down a Frederick Horace Arrowsmith in the London Gazette (still didn't find anything with the search engine!) dated 21 oct 1941 " RAMC - War Subs S.M. frederick Horace arrowsmith (176782) to be Lt (Qr-Mr) 24th aug 1941. He was later Lt(W/S) Capt 24 aug 1944. A FH Arrowsmith was born in St Pancras, London Nov 1900, which may tie in with the 7249664 ( puts his enlistment at around 1919/20, awarded LSGC 1937/38, commissioned after 22 years in 1941. Could be the same man? cheers, Rick

If Capt. Arrowsmith was a regular from the latter end of WW1, as you suspect, possibly some of his early Army details may be available via some of the 'Family History' websites? Possibly one of the 'WW2 Talk' members who subscribes to one of these could check it out for you?

The earliest date I can find him on the Army List, RAMC. Arrowsmith FH - Lt (QM) (Adjutant) QM- which would almost certainly mean he had been commissioned from the ranks :
