According to Fletcher, who is usually reliable, plans were certainly made to produce the Centaur Kangaroo but if any were actually produced they did not enter service. There was also a plan to remove the engines from Centaurs and thus produce a towed troop carrier with greater capacity. Neither the armoured units or the infantry liked the idea.

There was a dedicated Centaur troop carrier/gun tractor called the Taurus, of which I think nine were built, but I don't know if the Centaur Kangaroo was a different project. Crusader Gun Tractors when allocated for troop carrying were also referred to as Kangaroos.

The Canadians had experience of operating Centaurs taking over the remnants of the RMASG vehicles in early August 1944 - a battery with twelve Centaurs and three Sherman OP tanks. By 28th August there was one Sherman and four Centaurs serviceable with the rest "scattered through 1 BR Corps Workshops. (The Shermans had been KOed by mines).
