Situated in the west of Tay Ninh province and rising to over 3000 feet Nui Ba Den was a prominent land mark.
A few miles to the west of Nui Ba Den in Cambodia was the southern end of the Ho Chi Minh trail. consequently the whole area saw a large amount of activity. The American and Vietnamese governments devised a program called "Chieu Hoi" which in essence means "open arms." The program promised clemency and financial aid to Viet Cong and NVA soldiers and cadres who stopped fighting and returned to South Vietnamese government authority. Our helicopter was equipped with a large speaker that was used to broadcast to the enemy, we were assigned an area in which to drop Chieu Hoi leaflets and broadcast, not only words encouraging them to surrender but strange noises too. B52 air strikes were taking place a few miles to our west and were designed to funnel the enemy to the area we were seeding. Off goes a bunch of leaflets, the mountain can be seen at the rear.
