Glenmill camp was for a while under US guards. It was listed as "ETO PWE 3". (I think it was one of 10 US camps in UK) Initials - European Theatre of Operations / Does the PWE part stand for Prisoner of War Enclosure ??? Best wishes - Merry Christmas - Malcolm
Oddly PWE is not on the go to guide: Second World War Abbreviations and Acronyms - Researching WW2 which is not about the American usage Nor the first US Army List found: List of Abbreviations There are via a search engine enough references to 'enclosure' that you are correct; notably this one: European Theater of Operations Prisoner of War Enclosure No 6 stayed at Haltwhistle Northumberland on 06 december 1944
These consecutive pages extracted from Prisoners of War and Internment Camps: Special holding centers for captured German... | The National Archives use ‘Prisoner of War Enclosure #32’ and ‘PWE #32’. In this case rather than ETO the prefix was CC (Continental Central), which suggests to me that each group may have numbered their camps separately. n.b. The Prisoner of War Executive was coded PWX.
