Hi on drop CLE Container used for D day , there are different colors and symbols on it. do you know what is the meaning? loading or unit ? regards Ben
I don't think there was any standard to the colours/markings written on the container and in your photos it looks like they've been written on by the units themselves to help identify things. The usual method was to fit a coloured parachute to the container to indicate what it's contents were. Certainly none of the manuals I have say anything about markings on them. From your photos I would say that RE/31 was probably to identify a container meant for the Royal Engineers and Bren Mags is obviously loaded magazines for the .303 Bren LMG. I think it was more than likely something each unit did to help them to find their own/specific equipment and didn't conform to any pre-defined standard.
