Cleethorpes invasion defences

    Hi
Does anyone have any details on the invasion defences (especially coastal crust zone) at Cleethorpes in Lincs? The 6th Lindsey Home Guard Battalion was responsible for this zone. I can't figure out which regular army units were deployed here in the support though. The local archives don't appear to have any original records and I can't find any local history books that might cover this topic.

    Thanks for your help.

In 2012 there was a post here advertising the Grimsby and Cleethorpes History Club, which had a Facebook group and more. I've not looked for them.

There are many threads here that include Cleethorpes, on a quick scan I couldn't see any on your theme. Same for Lindsey. The sites search function has limitations, so for example I would use "Cleethorpes" + "Home Guard" site:ww2talk.com . You can change the ".." to suit, so defences for an example.

Wouldn't the 6th be called Lincolnshire? With Lindsey in brackets. Not that my focus is the Home Guard.

On this thread there are some possibly relevant photos of Lindsey Home Guard: Home Guard List

Post 2 on Home guard information provides some pointers for the Home Guard context (a 2010 post so links may be gone).

There are a few here whose focus is the Home Guard, hopefully they will be along.

After their return from Dunkirk the British 1st Infantry Division covered Lincolnshire until the threat of invasion receded.

See how this thread develops, I have photos of an Artillery Regt further south of Cleethorpes.
Located near Freiston near Boston Lincs.

Will start a new thread later regarding Freiston.

Thanks guys. I'll see if I can find any 1st Infantry Div war diaries that mention Cleethorpes at the National Archives.

This was extracted from 1st Div Wiki in #4

Suggest you run down the Order of Battle for 1st Div then look at their histories on line.
Do the same with the Lincs County Div

Some might have War Diaries on their Websites.
