More importantly there's a wonderful 1940 DCM won at Nieppe Forest where me a Rob went to look at a war crime.

Thinking of getting the full sized Normandy Campaign Medal to add to Dad's awards i have cased up.
What do you think? is it worth it.
I know it's an NVA commemorative medal, not an award & should be placed separate from those awarded.

I see no reason not to add it to the end of his campaign medals mate. It strikes me as no different to those that wore the Dunkirk medal on the end of their rack.

Rob, I think you should go with your heart with this and add the medal.

    Dear All,

After carefully reading a recent thread on the British Medal Forum, there is a warning out against fake WW2 Military Cross being sold on eBay.

BMF forum rules do not allow the eBay seller to be named or identified on their site and I would imagine our moderators would not want that information placed on here either.

So please be very wary about purchasing such items. There are also a number of WW1 MC's being copied and named.

    Things to remember:

WW2 MC's were issued unnamed and with the year of the act of gallantry stated on the reverse of the medal, in the lower arm of the cross.

Some recipients and families did subsequently have their medals inscribed. If thinking of purchasing such a medal, you should really be looking for some written family provenance to go with the medal, other than paperwork that can easily be obtained from the internet; London Gazette entries, WO373 recommendations etc.

Here are some images of the counterfeit items in question to help you identify possible fakes:

Another Guards/Dunkirk Military Medal for Sale. I've not looked at it in any detail yet but there does appear to be some errors, like the date of the evacuation being ordered in June 1940 and there was no Guards Armoured Division in France during 1940 and I've never come across a 11th Light Cars unit in France either:

Hi Rob, I attended a D Day event recently and I noticed a couple of veterans and some sons of veterans who had put the Normandy Medal on the bar along with there other medals.
I will be doing the same with my father's Normandy Medal. For me it's a matter of being proud of him.

I think you're quite correct on that point Rob, I will also be adding his Croix-De-Guerre to the bar.

    Hi Everyone.
Im new to the forum & lack knowledge in a number of areas of medal inscription numbers.
I have a Normandy Campaign medal with an inscribed number on the rim. Can someone please tell me what the number is in relation to.
    Thanks in advance

If it's the commemorative medal in post 49, probably the owner's service number. You have the option when buying it to have this engraved.
