    Afternoon all

Whilst editing my grandfather's diaries, this gentleman features very heavily. I wondered if anyone could give me any details regarding him? I believe he was commanding the Yorkshire Hussars during the early part of WW2 before assuming command of the Royal Dragoons in early 1943

    Any help much appreciated

    All best
    Charlie

Thank you v much indeed for taking the time to look at this. It seems some confusion as to what regiment he was in but am pretty certain it is the Royal Dragons, not the RA (or indeed AAC). The regimental magazine is an excellent idea although I can't seem to find him- I was hoping for an obituary but he doesn't seemt o feature!

Looking at that Gazette entry, (Captain (temporary Major) Humphrey Lloyd-Jones (89372), Army Air Corps (Blaenau, Wales).) it refers to ...

Recommendation for Award for Lloyd-Jones, Humphrey Rank: Temporary Major ... | The National Archives
    Reference: WO 373/1/222
    Name Lloyd-Jones, Humphrey
    Rank: Temporary Major
    Service No: 89732
    Regiment: Army Air Corps
Theatre of Combat or Operation: North Africa (Algeria, Tunisia)
    Award: Military Cross
Date of announcement in London Gazette: 18 May 1943

To sort out any confusion, War Diaries - Field Returns - would confirm Officer's personal number and also dates when with units.

Thanks for all your help here. It seems there are a few "Humphrey Lloyds" who served. Having done some research on the Forces War Records and National Archives, I can see the man I'm looking for is:

Lt Col Humphrey William Lloyd (1903-1990). Service Number: 23794

Could anyone help me work out how you can locate his service record please?

    Much appreciated

I don't know if you ever got his service record but the dates that you quote suggest this is your man:

    Lt. 1/2/26.
