I am looking for a British soldier who worked in the 3rd Division's rest club at Luc-sur-Mer in Normandy, during the summer of 1944. The officer in charge of the rest club was Captain Mac Hoag and the officer in charge of the Cookhouse was Corporal Cains. If anyone knows how to find the list of soldiers working there between August 1944 and December 1944, please contact me. Thank you very much! AGS

3RD BRITISH DIVISION REST CLUB [Allocated Title] Object description This film shows some of the amenities provided for front-line troops spending a 12-hour rest period away from their units. Seen here are some of two hundred sappers of 3rd Division's 253 Field Company RE taking a day's break at a divisional rest-club in a requisitioned hotel (the Hotel Belle Plage) on the beach at Luc-sur Mer. Full description The rest period commences at 10am when the men are first seen arriving; much of the morning is taken up with the exchange of old clothing for new issue and having showers as well as time to have a read, a smoke and a cup of tea. After lunch, the troops are allowed to go for walks and bathe in the sea and enjoy other diversions. A concert party is put on in the afternoon; ex-professional musicians play to an appreciative audience. At 8pm the day comes to an end and the sappers set off back to the war. (See Dope Sheet for details).
