I've just been reunited with an envelope of old papers, some of it a batch I bought on ebay a number of years ago. It was bought 'blind' for a trifling amount of money from a very kind lady who subsequently sent a second batch free of charge. The first envelope is the only real clue as to the previous owner, but the personal cards from Oliver Leese suggest that he had a military relationship with the man--perhaps he served at TAC HQ. The name appears to be MR L. H. MARCRS, but it's far more likely to be L. H. MAVERS, which brings up a driver named here:

    T/211029 Dvr L H Mavers:

Which takes me here to Cpl Mavers 'Monty's Private Driver':
The Mavers Collection - a substantial collection of photographs.

I intend to get in touch with the author of this site, (Kevin Toole) if possible.[Edit: no contact details]

It looks as if he bought or sold this:

A military archive relating to Lance Corporal L Mavers, who was an RASC driver in WWII to General Montgomery, Eighth Army, during the Battle of Alamein, against Field Marshal Rommel and later Dunkirk, the archive contains various photographs of 'Monty' and other high ranking army personnel, Corporal Mavers' army badges and correspondence from Lt General Sir Oliver Leese

A military archive relating to Lance Corporal L Mavers, who was an RASC driver in WWII to General

Does anybody here have any connection to him or it? Or can anybody else turn up any biographical information on the man.

I post photographs of the various ephemera beneath:

By wild coincidence, I've been asking posters on another thread to identify the driver taking the King and Monty about in North Africa.

It may just be the man whose Christmas cards I have in my hands!
