Every cloud and all that....I just started to check the 1940 DLI Missing Men file for another thread and found this picture that I never knew I had No idea who the marked chap is. The file contains over 600 pages so it may be sometime before I find out, if at all.
Just looking at this again-The chap (I'm presuming he's a WO) just left of the officers has a serious rack of gongs. Anyone want to have a crack at them? I'm guessing there's a few WW1 medals in there?
Just came across this thread and Owen was absolutely 100% correct in his post! The Warrant officer in the photo is 4439946 RSM Thomas Tate 8th Durham Light Infantry (`D` Company) he enlisted in the Durham Light Infantry prior to WW1 his original service number was 2408 it was then changed to 300279. A transfer to the Royal Fusiliers resulted in two other number changes GS/99275 and 329703. He rejoined the Durham Light Infantry and given the number 4 439946 (Post war) . Still a Pte in 1919 his address was C/o The Drill Hall ,Durham City. Thomas Tate was awarded a 1914-15 Star War Medal Victory Medal. In Army Order 423 ,1923 it authorised the award a Territorial Efficiency Medal (TEM GV) which was presented on February 15th 1924. It was authorised in a further Army Order that Thomas Tate be awarded the Efficiency Medal presented in February 1937. So the five medals in Drews photo have been correctly identified by Owen. Kyle
