D-Day as seen by a POW

    Yesterday, thanks to contributor United We March Gunnison Gut Check, I was reading the POW journal of Acel Thompson. I found these two entries from 1944 particularly compelling. For context, Acel was often assigned to the cowbarn, hence the reference to milking. He often mixed a German word or two into his notes. Gefangen means "prisoner" or "captured one".

    June 6. "Four men went to Rommelsberg for sweaters and Red Cross parcels. France has been invaded. Good news for a gefangen."
    June 7. "Milked some more. The Yank [sic] have landed in two places in France."

    Nothing like "as seen by ... "
