Sorry, but I have to share this. My Dad was a DR with the 79th armoured division during WW2. He had a book about the division and contained in the book was a map showing where the regiment went during and after D Day. My map is framed and has pride of place on the landing.
I am a telephone engineer by trade and visit peoples houses to repair telephones so I have been to quite a few properties in my 40 years.
Got a job 1 mile from my house after lunch today and when asking the customer about the telephone problem I caught a glance of, yes you guessed it the same map.
It transpired the customers father was a flail tank driver in the 79th. He trained in Helmsley and went over on D Day. My Dad went over on D Day plus 2.
Both came from North Liverpool (Bootle)
Does any one here know how many people woud be in the regiment?
Thank you for sharing this with me.
